HE – Excess Enthalpies in Non-Electrolyte Mixtures

Excess Enthalpy of Acetone and Water

The hE data bank contains excess enthalpy (heats of mixing) data for a large number of binary and multicomponent mixtures. While the effect of hE on the enthalpy balance of unit operations is usually small, these data allow the precise description of the temperature dependence of the real liquid mixture behavior (gE and activity coefficients).

Knowledge of the excess enthalpy is the only safe way to use the experimental information from data banks like DDB-VLE and DDB-HPV at other temperatures.

Experimental determination of hE data is usually cheaper and less time consuming than VLE measurements. In many cases, authors report VLE at lower temperatures, especially room temperature, where the components are chemically more stable and hE is used to extrapolate the behavior to plant operation conditions.
